About Elena Toccafondi

I’ve spent the last 15 years telling stories.
I work as a video editor and story producer across documentaries and branded content — from commercials and trailers to social-first work. My work has appeared on Netflix, Amazon, NBC, CNBC, VICE, Showtime, Oxygen, Rai Cinema, Al Jazeera, and TRT World, and has screened at festivals including TIFF and DOC NYC.
Alongside my film work, I write and create illustrated stories in a deliberately simple, naïve visual language, often blending the poetic with humor.

Originally from the hills of Tuscany, I’ve lived in New York City for over a decade. I speak English and Italian, and I’m proficient in Spanish. I live with my partner, Shelby the dog, and Tuna the cat, who regularly walks across my keyboard to suggest unexpected edits (don’t worry — I back everything up).

These practices might seem far apart, but they share the same principles: expressing ideas with the fewest, most effective words possible — and often through images alone. Whether for adults or children, the tone may shift, but the core remains the same: finding what matters and making it unforgettable.
I’m drawn to stories that explore social justice, feminism, identity, memory, and our relationship to the natural world. I enjoy work that balances seriousness with lightness and leaves room for wonder and surprise. My approach is collaborative, thoughtful, and grounded in empathy for both subject and audience.
